The 2012 Convention will be unlike any before it -- and I'm not just saying that because I happen to call North Carolina home.

The campaign wants it to be an event not just for the 35,000 who will attend, but for the millions of people across the country whose values it will reflect. In 2004, I met then-State Senator Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. It was the night after the speech that catapulted him into the national spotlight.

When I greeted the future president he looked at me and said, "I don't have a seat."

Four years later I watched him accept the Democratic nomination for the Presidency of the United States in Denver.

It was a powerful moment for a lot of reasons, but for many of us who were there, the point was driven home: It was so important that we were nominating a candidate who reflects our hopes and our core values -- someone who's looking out for all Americans, not just those with the most money or the most power.

As a native North Carolinian, I couldn't be more proud to be hosting next year's convention in Charlotte, a dynamic community that reflects the diversity of our country, and of this campaign. We promise this will be our party's most inclusive convention yet.
